WEEK 3

First off I am sorry week three is so slow to come out. Last week was crazy busy for me and getting everything finished by weeks end proved to be a challenge.

Week three camera I picked was the Konica C35 automatic rangefinder. This out of all my rangefinders is my favorite camera. As this project moves forward you will find I have a soft spot for rangefinders. I am a fan of the compact size of these cameras also I just like the look of camera. The Konica C35 automatic was produced by Konica in 1971 and it came with a very impressive 38mm 2.8 Hexanon lens. I am really impressed with the sharpness of this lens and camera. DSC_0067img686

The focusing on the Konica C35 Automatic is a coupled rangefinder and it may take a few times to get used to the way it works, as you have to overlap the image on a tiny square in the center of the viewfinder. Once the image is aligned your subject will be in focus and ready to shoot.  I have used this rangefinder quit a bit since finding it in a pawn shot for $20. img695

The C35 has a shutter speed of 1/30 to 1/650 and the needle is really easy to see as the viewfinder is a bright one.  I also found the film advance lever was easy to move and I really like the feel of the camera in my hand.

I took the C35 out for a day of shooting in Niagara On The Lake and Niagara Falls and the images from this Hexanon glass lens were detailed and sharp. img696img688img672

Every morning I buy my coffee in this Tim Horton’s drive thru and every day this billboard yells at me, now both my boys want to try skydiving! img678

The ice is so tempting!  This would be the perfect place for pond hockey.img689

Part of this project while shooting these 52 cameras was to do one self portrait a roll showing me with the camera. I also started this tree and corner project in the mix. Each week I will shoot this corner and tree outside my house and watch it change over the year. As for the self portrait, I was able to get it after locking my front door. I will admit I misjudged the film count on the camera and this is the only one I get this week. img673

The Konica C35 Automatic was one of the easiest cameras in the project and that is why I wanted to get it over with at the start. I know rangefinders are not for everyone but if you find one cheap and want an awesome compact 35mm camera, then this is one camera you should have on your list. Again sorry for the delay in the post but life can get busy as well. I have so many ideas so little time to do them.

Now to pick next weeks camera… what will it be?  I could pull out another rangefinder or maybe some instant goodness!

  1. hahaha Tim Hortons!! I visit Vancouver, BC from time to time and usually get my coffee from a Tim Horton’s as well. I actually love rangefinders when I’m on the street. This looks like a great camera.

  2. Nice set of photo’s lovely and sharp. I just got one of these cameras and these photo’s have give me encouragement to go out and shoot a roll of film, so looking forward to it.
